It's a serious income machine that is safe enough.  You'd laugh if you watched me manage MO in my port.  I always try to keep a few hundred shares.  It gets beat up on the quarterly bad news and I am selling puts for more income and find myself overweight. Then it runs up some and I sell some calls to trim.  Then it runs three points higher than I thought it would and I am praying for a chance to get more shares.  If MO increases the div only 1% a year we are fine for years. I think I would be quite content if the shares would rise a couple bucks a year consistently but it works out even if they don't.
Glad to see that there was a dividend increase. Now every time I see a new post here, I'm afraid to look to see if one of my stocks just cut their dividend.

The best utility in the whole world. OK, the fact that this was my first successful investment may jade my opinion some. Smile I have some pre-merger shares that are up 1300% with DRIP, and I think my first dividend was maybe 15 cents. I know I was sure excited to see the reinvested dividends post. I don't even remember the details but the stock dropped to sub 8 and I was like "damn! how the hell does a Minneapolis utility head for BK?" Actually they don't, and I doubled down. Got it right this time.
National Oilwell Varco suspends quarterly dividend.

The hits keep coming in the patch. This was a major player last time oil crashed.
