QCOM

PE of 13.8 with zero debt and $9B in annual cash flows will keep me invested. I haven't added to my position at all but I am comfortable holding through the current weakness.

Qualcomm (NASDAQ:QCOM) has launched a $15B buyback program that will replace a prior program with $2.1B remaining. The company plans to buy back $10B worth of shares within 12 months, on top of a current commitment to return 75% of free cash flow to shareholders. At current levels, the new buyback is good for repurchasing ~1/8 of all outstanding shares.

The quarterly dividend has been hiked by $0.06 (14%) to $0.48/share; that's good for a 2.6% yield at current levels. It will be effective for dividends payable after March 25.

Would've liked to see a bigger dividend increase and a smaller buyback, but I'll take it. 14% aint so bad, right? Smile

I like the buyback and I like the dividend raise.

Quote:Our cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities at December 28, 2014, consisted of $4.1 billion held by United States-based entities and $27.5 billion held by foreign entities. Most of our cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities held by foreign entities is indefinitely reinvested and would be subject to material tax effects if repatriated.

With ~zero debt on the books it's time to get this buyback train moving

I'll be a buyer when the yield crosses 3%.

Posted a dividend stock analysis on SA this morning.

Btw, came across this exec compensation details while doing my research. Its appalling to see how fast that has risen in 2014. Hopefully the management will get things under control for QCOM's own benefit

Well, looks like QCOM is caving to the pressure from Jana. New Jana members are being added to the board, 15% cut in workforce, exploring possibility of spinoffs.

Quote:including an approximately $300 million reduction in annual share-based compensation grants

This, to me, was the brightest part of the news

Interesting developments from Qualcomm - new drone platform plans to do what they did withe smartphones - make it easier and simplify drone development by giving companies a single board to work with.

On a side note, very tempted to buy more here at the $55 level.

For me what's really cool with Qualcomm is that they are working on neural networks chips (https://www.qualcomm.com/invention/cogni...ies/zeroth). I've been working on this field for several years now, and I believe it's really the next move for the semiconductor industry. Definitely a very good opportunity for Qualcomm in the future so more growth for us Smile

Links broken, marcoschwartz. Heres something from QCOM's site: https://www.qualcomm.com/news/onq/2013/1...-computing

Good to hear that you are in the field - definitely something we are all heading towards. Its what I love about QCOM...they spend so much on R&D and arent afraid to take the risks and dive head-in. Another field where QCOM has beaten Intel to in being the first. But this time around (like with mobile chipsets), Intel has followed them soon enough to catch up.

Speaking of upcoming technological revolutions, I saw an interesting talk from Peter Diamandis. If you have 20 mins to spare, its a great clip to check out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlCb-1NM8mY
