the Board of Directors of The Charles Schwab Corporation (SCHW) at its meeting today increased the quarterly cash dividend by $0.02, or 25%, to $0.10 per common share. The dividend is payable February 23, 2018 to stockholders of record as of the close of business on February 9, 2018. The new dividend rate is consistent with the company’s target range of approximately 20 - 30 percent of net income.

Wow! (And finally!) So many years of 4 and 5 percent raises out of AFL, and then this? The pattern in recent years has been to do an annual raise starting in calendar Q4, with a raise from $0.43 to $0.45 just last quarter. So this certainly is a pleasant surprise.

Much agreed!  I sold about 1/3 of my AFL when it was over $91 just a bit ago.  Not sure I did the right thing...

Patience paid off even with the headwinds AFL is facing. Still only puts the payout ratio at 31% of trailing earnings.
