I was quite active in the infancy of the forum but between:

Finishing university, getting a job, qualifying as an accountant in the UK, buying a home & starting a family I wasn't really investing much new capital into the market so stopped posting.
However now I'm in a stable job, have a home and my child is 2. So here's announcing that I'm back and actively investing again (I just SWAN'd with my existing positions during the last few years).
I'm so excited to reconnect with everyone and hopefully there's at least one person out there who remembers me either as Lewys120 or my current name aha!

Just wanted to let you know we are glad you are here. I am really hoping a few of you find this place worthy of your presence. DGI is not as exciting as what this market has been bringing the past few years so it's been a struggle to keep this place worth visiting often. Some new on topic content is very much welcomed, but you will have to get used to this eclectic bunch. When you only have a dozen members that post fairly regularly you get to know each other. We pretty much know everyone's occupation, how many kids we do or don't have, approximate age and our retirement goals in some detail. The "what did you buy today" thread is our general purpose thread. We may sound like a bunch of day traders there but we all have DGI ports. Some are exclusive to that strategy, and some of us trade or even try to make income with option strategies with a portion of our port. Dividend talk is never out of place anywhere on this forum. I'll warn you a lot of banter happens there too. We know who can take a joke and none of it is intended to be mean spirited. Join in if you like, or avoid it. We often speak freely there because we don't want each other to lose money because they don't have all the facts. We don't have the vast resources of SA but the place has a personal touch.

Hope you'll say hello here and introduce yourself with a sentence or a paragraph. Guess I should start. I am a 34 yr military retiree. I work part-time at Home Depot where I design custom doors and windows for a few more months until I fully retire. I actually took about three years of full retirement a few years back. Married with a 23yr old daughter. I love to fly fish and enjoy old truck restoration. I have a 1953 Ford F100 street rod and a 94 Mustang I drag race some. I've always been a gearhead. I love the pursuit of investing. I'm no CPA but I spend a lot of time on conference calls and researching the sectors I enjoy most.

Hi All,

I'm giving this a try as SA shuts down its blogs.

Brief bio: I've been DG investing since 2007-08. I've written several eBooks on the subject, the most recent one at the beginning of 2021. I've also written hundreds of articles, first at SA circa 2008-2019, more recently at the Daily Trade Alert and Dividends & Investing newsletters since about 2015. Last April, I began creating videos for the Dividends & Income channel on YouTube.

I am a pretty straightforward DG investor. I don't emphasize either high yields or fast growth, rather I use them both where appropriate. I have had a real-time, real-money DG portfolio going since 2008. I have written about it often and more recently presented it in videos. It's designed to demonstrate what is possible with the DGI strategy. It has achieved a yield on cost of 11.5% and it's a 3-bagger in capital gains.

I'm glad to be here, and I hope to both see old friends here and meet some new ones.
Looking forward to meeting people here and learning from everyone. I'm not smart enough to advise anyone on how to invest but I'm very willing to toss what I'm doing out there and answer questions in case there's something of value someone can take from it.

Hello everyone!

I am Golden living in frankfurt and a business minded turning passive investor. After dabbling in various approaches and strategies, the one that made the most sense to me was a mixture of Value investing and Dividend investing. As an avid reader and learner, I eventually found the good book (the SBI) and this forum. I must admit, it is one of the last of its kind, very serene atmosphere and no unnecessary clashes. I have read many threads already and decided to join the group. I have observed though that most members are 50+, maybe that's why there is so much wisdom around here.

In anycase, I hope I am welcomed and can contribute the little I can.

Hello everyone. I have been a passive reader of this site for a couple of years to try to learn a little about DGI investing. I am in my upper 50s and have retired from the military for about 9 years after almost 30 years of service. I joke to everyone that the military pays me well to stay away.

I really didn't have the money to really invest until recently and am looking for ideas on where to start, how much should a starting position in a stock be (minimum/maximum), and anything else that anyone feels is important for a new guy like me. While I am looking at DGI stock and expect I am way late to the game, I am also looking to be able to pass on to my children for them to continue to grow the portfolio and use the dividends to live on and/or pass to my grandchildren. I intend to re-invest the dividends as I really don't need to income at this point.

I don't have income, so I can't start a 401k or IRA, but I have started my children in a ROTH IRA this year. I do own a very, very, very small business, but I don't draw a salary from it yet. I've thought about doing so in the future so that I can open an IRA or go with someone like Betterment to open a 401K. The max I would pay myself would only be about $1,000 a month initially, but I would probably put all of it in an IRA/401K.

BTW, I'm in a similar position as Eric's parents, but may have a little more cash to invest.

Thanks in advance for any insight and patience with me.

Also, I was a nuclear power plant operator/supervisor in the military.

Happy to join this community after being a passive reader for more than a year. I've learned a lot from you.

I'm a lawyer in my mid 30s seeking financial freedom through dividend growth investing.

I used to be quite active on the Bogleheads forum where investing in individual stocks in considered blasphemous lol

I recognize that my preference for dividends is emotional, not purely financial or rational. I like the comfort of a steady income stream. I don't want to "lose" my financial independence to the wild gyrations of Mr. Market that may slash the value of my index funds lol.

My long term goal is to reach $40,000 in annual dividend income. I started my dividend portfolio on May 2020 and my current projected dividend income stands at $6,622.

BTW I'm also active on twitter as Dividend Hummingbird for those of you who are active on that social network.

Anyway, thanks for reading and happy to be here.

Hi Everyone,

I've been lurking this forum for the better part of a year. I'm largely an Index Fund/Boglehead investor (low cost, keep simple, buy the haystack not the needle, etc.). However in the past few years I became more and more convinced of the value in DGI investing as well. I currently have a port of roughly 50 companies and like most of you, I look for attractive valuations for when and where to add.

Looking forward to FINALLY being able to participate moving forward. Thank You Kerim!

I'm retired and the older I get the more time I spend on the markets and the fewer chances I take. When I tell people options are a lot of what I do, a good share of them give me a funny look. I tell them that dividends are a big part of it too and all in all I believe it is a much better plan than what fixed income can offer. I've used this strategy about 6 months and am here to ask questions, learn and contribute if I can.

Hello everyone,

I recently joined the forum after spending a few weeks browsing around. I’m glad to be apart of this community and look forward to contributing as well as learning new ideas. Dividend investing has been a hobby of mine for the last few years, I look forward to sharing my investment views and my limited knowledge with the community.

I work in institutional investing which has taught me a great deal about broad market strategies. I also have an advanced degree in analytics and I try to apply that knowledge to my personal investing strategies.

My personal investments are mainly focused on quality dividend stocks with a goal to beat the broad market while earning dividends! But I follow various dividend investing approaches to broaden my understanding of the space.

I look forward to getting more involved in the conversations on this forum in the coming weeks.

Thanks for allowing me to contribute to your investment forum. A little about me: 47 years old, divorced. I really got into dividend investing before the divorce, when the budget was tight and I realized that if I had $100,000 invested @ 5% yield, that could allow me to have a $5,000 vacation every year. Well, everything is different now. For one thing, there's nowhere to go. But more importantly, I had to give my portfolio to the ex as part of the divorce settlement. I've only got my "sea legs" so to speak back under me this year, and I've built back up to $40k. So far I'm not in dividend stocks, because I don't need the supplemental income at the moment, but that's the end game. I look forward to discussing further strategies in the other forums.
