MLB 2023 season
#1
I haven't been following the Red Sox much this year.  I will explain.

It all started in 2018, our World Series year with such an amazing team.  But Chris Sale was toast by the end of the season, yet inexplicably despite all the evidence suggesting his arm was about to fall off, they gave him a huge contract extension.  This was to lay the groundwork for all the problems to come.

Next, the Sox let Mookie Betts go because they couldn't afford him.  That was awful.  Still, they said that by doing this, they'd be able to hold onto other stars like Xander Bogaerts.

Then came the foolhardy acquisition of Trevor Story, which prevented us from retaining other players, especially Bogaerts.

So now I look at the Red Sox, and everyone is gone.  Mookie Betts. Xander Bogaerts.  Kyle Schwarber.  Nathan Eovalidi.  Eduardo Rodriguez.  JD Martinez.  All playing well on other teams.

Looking at the current Red Sox payroll:
Chris Sale - $27.5 million - out indefinitely
Trevor Story - $20 million - out indefinitely
Rafael Devers - $17.5 million - slumping
