In my opinion Walmart will eventually fare better than Amazon as they will have the best of both worlds. However, any major brick and mortar retail merchant who ignores internet sales or has less than a competitive on line presence will suffer. Walmart could use the internet opportunistically to offer far more choices than those that exist in the walk in stores. But the walk in stores gives additional flexibility for shoppers. With order on line/pick up in the store options, Walmart will be able to offer free or reduced shipping far longer than will be the case with Amazon.
p.s. - in the past couple of years, I've begun to order many more purchases from on line Walmart and Home Depot. IMO these retailers were slow out of the gate, but are quickly improving on line presence and offerings.
