Reputation Button

Are there any guidelines on the use of the reputation button? My inclination is to give a single click for tone/attitude of poster after reading a few posts and to give a click for occasional content strength or general helpfulness of the poster. I did so for a couple of posters earlier today. Just a minute ago, when trying to give EricL a click for his nice post about tech positions, the 'reputation' button didn't work.

Anyway, didn't want to get carried away, if use of the button is intended to be used very sparingly.

I think you have it about right. I think the software enforces somewhat sparing use by only letting you use it a certain amount. I'll try to learn more about it when I have a chance.
