How to Handle a Spin Off - Main Street Stock Investor - 11-07-2014

This week Kimberly Clark (KMB) spun off Halyard Health. I typically sell any spin off immediately and credit my accounting sheets with the resutlant profit from the sale. I account for the proceeds from the spin off sale as income, just like dividend income, trading income, or option income for that particular position.

I would be interested to learn how other investors treat a spin off.

Same here. I sold HYH yesterday and used the funds for my QCOM / MSFT purchases.

Basically a one time ~5% dividend from KMB. Thanks guys!
