That's exactly what is going on vbin.  They were also buying treasuries and munis of course which was normal.  That was causing the corporate bonds to collapse so they are buying those too now.  Anybody think they can beat Chief Powell then short this market hard ad lose in the end.  I want no part of that thank you very much.  Let the virus subside and you'll get scorched.  Going short and buying puts moderation is just good hedging.  This is obviously a bull trap rally, but there is no limit to how much money the FED will print to keep this from becoming so bad it drives off all small investors forever.  I truly wish I could stop them from panic selling their entire 401Ks.  It's happening because they are rightfully scared with their minimal knowledge of this game..  I do think we drop significantly from here and I'll have some cash.  I've been trimming my positions for days.

RE: What Did You Buy Today? - fenders53 - 03-26-2020

Trimmed some of my beloved core holdings while the market was 1000+ up again today. Only about half of the orders executed.

CAT-HON-VISA-UPS-3M It hurt to even type that lol.

Bought a couple SPY puts. JAN21 230 and a SEP20 225. Didn't like doing that either. Smile

Board is quiet today. Anybody else making moves?

With the money I have earned this week we will be hitting the chick fil a drive through daily  Tongue

A have a few names I have on my list that haven't rallied yet... So I do have 1 eye open lol

I'm not going to significantly cash out because I'll mess it up like everybody else always does in the end and miss a big ride up at some point.  This is the trickiest market I've ever experienced.  Everybody has a theory, but I didn't hear anyone predicting the market would launch three days straight with epic unemployment numbers and zero earnings obviously coming lol.  Worst pandemic for 100 years and the market is up well over 10% lol   I've made a ton of money this week which was a nice change.

I agree, I expected the market to further drop with these unemployment numbers coming out. This market is completely unpredictable. I’m going to sit still for the time being.

If you own quality, the correct move is often no move.  I have too much time on my hands and can't help but mess with my port some.  Tiny buys and sells won't wreck you when you find out your crystal ball is broken.  Smile

I don't recognize your screen name.  Hope you stick around.

RE: What Did You Buy Today? - kblake - 03-26-2020

I went 100% cash at the end of the day. I don't know if and when I will get back in. But its a joke the market is even up that big the last 3 days. Which Is why After 30 years i have decided I had enough. The money I made will be going to properties and paying for my kid college. My wife and I decided its the right time to get out and put that money to go use rather then have it dwindle over the next several months or even years. I cant complain. After this rally I actually ended on the plus side for the year lol

What gets me is people are losing their lives and jobs and this government just keeps pumping money in to the market to save it, and save Trump's face. Its a disgrace that this is what it has come to. How long do they think this stimulus package will last? its enough maybe for 2-3 weeks and then were back to where we started. And I'm not playing that game. I have 3 daughters going off to college this year and next. I'm fine with getting out because it will let me sleep and night and be able to take care of my family.

I will probably keep half of the money in a 2 year CD until my oldest starts college at Purdue.

Best of luck all and stay safe.

Totally respect your line of thinking and decision, mate.  Best of luck!

RE: What Did You Buy Today? - fenders53 - 03-26-2020

kblake,

Good luck to you and your family. I've enjoyed the conversation this year. It's been a historical month or so and nobody knows how this ends. Sounds like you have a very good place to put your account proceeds. The vast majority are down so you did well to navigate this minefield and end up on top.

RE: What Did You Buy Today? - ChadR - 03-26-2020

kblake, I completely understand your decision. If my kids were closer to starting college, I would be out of this current market. Since my oldest is still 6 years away from college, I have time for this market to right itself. Enjoyed your contributions to the forum.

Sounds like you made the right decision for you and your family, kblake. Never regret taking profits.

You had me until you said on the way up  Big Grin

I hope we can hold these gains today. We could all use a positive day. Any positive in general

BA back up to $116 pre/market. I still haven’t bought it. My 52 week low list is a mile long. Can’t buy them all lol

Absolutely, the buy list is a mile long!

Since I very rarely sell, the last two sells I remember was Target and Google--both mistakes...biggest most financial mistake was RedHat....Oh...I did sell IBM just don't remember when. I don't think I had any sells in the last three maybe 4 years--I can't remember.

I guess another way of looking at this situation is that I'm buying through it, there's a beginning--a middle--and a end...history has proven it makes a "V" it might be a jagged lop-sided "V" but it's usually a "V" a very choppy "V"....That's why I buy through it.
Depends on one's definition of a V.  The two major bear markets of my investing career took a long time to return to a new SP500 ATH.   The tech bubble took about 7 years and the GFC about 6 years.  I was born at the perfect time to catch three major bear markets before age 60.  Investing more money as you are doing Ray is the only thing that saved me. This is the stuff that wrecks retirement plans if you get scared out or your asset allocations are inappropriate.  I remember when there was a big push to invest the Social Security funds in equities.  Yeah maybe that's not a great idea since 401Ks are already there for most.

Fenders, yes I don't stop...right through it! I've always told my friends in times like this, the down times,, this is when we make our real money.

I won't sell, I've had multiple friends tell me to sell back in 2008/09 and a couple that told me to sell recently. Wealth Preservation they call it--no way man--nose to the grinding stone--as long as money comes in I buy.

Oh...this time it's different...

Okay....
