RE: What Did You Buy Today? - crimsonghost747 - 02-28-2020

Let's have another -10% next week! Wink
This is fun.

On a more serious note, I do still need the prices to go lower. And it goes without saying but guys and gals, leave some cash in case it actually gets bad.
-The December 2018 panic selling took the S&P500 to around 2400 at it's worst. We are currently almost 20% higher than that.
-Let's forget about that little 2018 panic and disregard it completely. Other than that, 2019 lows were around 2750 which happened in March and again in May. We are still 7% above those levels.

I want to see us lower before I pulverize the piggy bank.

RE: What Did You Buy Today? - fenders53 - 02-29-2020

I am hopeful we only have one more week of this.  Who knows?  Every sector has finally fallen which generally has to occur before there is any chance of the free fall slowing down.  If you have cash it's just dollar cost averaging at hyper speed.  If you don't have cash it's just painful.  It's a helpless feeling. Stay fully invested is a great strategy, until it isn't and you are missing out on 25% off sales on good high quality stocks. I will continue to buy everyday but the purchases will get smaller in case this is a real bear market.  About the only thing I am confident of is if it continues the FED will ease rates and a middle class tax cut won't surprise me.  It's an election year so no amount of monetary recklessness is off the table.  I don't agree that is a good idea but I'm not in charge.  It's obvious the US
Prez considers the stock market his report card.

RE: What Did You Buy Today? - MikeWa - 02-29-2020

During this week I added (in no particular order): MMM, WFC, MO, PFE, VTR, VZ, IP, V, DOW, CVX, RDS.B, APLE, EPD, XOM, F, PG, BP, KHC. Some stocks I purchased several times during the week.

Looking forward to another -10-12% next week and another opportunity to buy some discounted quality stocks. :-)

RE: What Did You Buy Today? - fenders53 - 02-29-2020

My buying spree will have to slow to a dribble to stay 25% in cash, just in case this really is the big one. I got a lot of nice discounts, but I was at least a day early for sure. I sold very little overall, but I did cash out of some Utes while I could. I would like to start getting back in next week as they are closer to fair value now. They certainly aren't undervalued yet. Other than that I will try to lighten up on my junk stocks, and flip it to quality if I can do so without incurring big losses on the switch. It's not likely.
If not, I will accept my fate that I am a F, KHC and big oil bag holder for years, if not forever. I'll pretty sure that is how this ends but I have to give them some time.

My crystal ball says the market will be very choppy for weeks. There will be much speculation, but there is no way to know the true severity of the virus until some time passes. In the meantime I have little doubt the FED and the prez will try to juice the market to avoid a hard correction.

Added some WELL on the opening dip. Switched out my AAL for more shares of DAL, for quality reasons. DAL has a far better balance sheet and AAL is likely in for much harder times with recent events. Now back to my bomb shelter. Not forcing any trades while the market is up.

Lots of green on the board right now.

Traded ES, long then short and now just exited another long. This vol is like the old days.

I added some PEP and AEP on friday

I sold some names today on the 500 point up this morning to free some up some cash. My plan is to hold the cash and add to my positions in GD, LMT and RTN on more downturnes. As this time I own 25-30 shares each. I would like to have 40-50 shares each of GD, LMT and RTN when its all said and done. This is the only sector I'm looking to add to at the moment.

BTW does anyone own WEN? Its down from $23-19 in the past 2 weeks. My family loves it there and the new breakfast menu is amazing They also raised its dividend from .10 to .12. - 2-2.3% yield.

I trade WEN now and then.  It's under-rated by the market IMO.  I hadn't noticed recent price.  It's generally a fairly safe entry in the mid to high teens.  Try not to chase it because you probably won't run out of chances this week. Just gave them a quick look. The debt is escalating some but I see no other cause for alarm, and this isn't a bad interest rate environment to roll some debt forward. Burger world is competitive and they are on the higher end of pricing. WEN always hits a wall when they bump up against the brokerage price targets. If that sounded like my usual bearish view I really didn't really mean it to be. I'd buy WEN if it dropped another buck. Everytime it drops I sell covered puts a little lower. When it drops for real I also buy a few long shares. When it runs up I sell a call. I pick up a few of the quarterly divs, and pick up another 2% everytime I sell an option. Not a get rich quick scheme, but I just don't view it as a longterm buy and hold. The competition always reacts and puts a leash on the SP. There is no moat and never will be.

I'm getting hungry for a double with cheese just typing this. Smile Their food quality is a notch above MCD, BK and the like.

Bought some FDX

It may go lower but at this price I thought it was worth it.

I'm thinking whenever this virus breaks there will be a backlog of volume requiring FedEx's lift capability.

Anyone else adding to FDX?

Not a bad buy on FDX. I'm waiting to buy transports. I think this sector will continuetunie to get punished. I have UPS, FDX, DAL, UNP and NSC on my buy list. I'm just not readt to pull the trigger yet.

On a side note. I'm ahead on XOM. Maybe I should sell now  Big Grin

TD was one of the stocks I bought.

RE: What Did You Buy Today? - fenders53 - 03-02-2020

Sold my DIS and MPW. I'm up, haven't owned it long, and I don't need any new positions right now. The news is not better since last week. The market is nuts and if this isn't an oversold bounce I should just hang it up. No idea how much cash I will actually need soon, but I now have more than I did. I think the market may be anticipating a rate cut, because that will cure a virus for sure. Smile
