Porfolio activity 4/1-5/16 - hendi_alex - 05-18-2014

NAT increased by 300 shares. Call/put activity netted $794 cash flow.
Sold one call contract against HCP - netted $122.
Bought 10 AAPL @$524, sold Oct $525 call for $371.
Bought 200 T, sold Jan $35 calls for $287.
Closed 10 AA long call contracts to net $280.
30 shares of AAPL lost to calls, average price $450 plus about $35 from the call sells, plus several dividends.
ECA called at $18, the call buyer won handily on this one, but netted nice double digit target return for my portfolio.
800 shares of INTC called at $24. Nice double digit return.
Bought 300 GE, sold Jan $27 calls to net $368.
Bought 10 AAPL, sold Jan $570 call to net $352.
Short term trade 1500 TNK, netting $182.
Bought 200 CCJ, sold Dec $21 calls to net $341.
Closed 6 Jun CCJ $21 call contracts at a cost of $271 and immediate resold December $21 calls for $918 or $710 net on the two transactions.
Bought ten PSEC Nov $10 contracts for 20 cents or (-$215) net.
Repurchased 1500 TNK at $3.38 or three cents below original buy.
Doubled KMI by adding 150 shares @$33.25.
Closed CCJ jun $20 calls netting $503 from the original sell.

$1158 in dividends hit the pot.
No changes in the long term dividend portfolio, except for the addition of KMI shares. Probably will sell calls on 100 of the shares and will retain 50 (200 total) in the long term portfolio.

No disrespect here, but my head is spinning. Lots of activity. I subscribe to the axiom, "portfolio is like a bar of soap.....shrinks the more you handle it". I know you've heard that. What would have happened if you didn't buy/sell anything? Would you have lost money? Just curious.

Doesn't look excessive to me. He has a passive account and an active account, and sells options. A lot can happen in a month and a half. If your portfolio is big enough to have shares in the hundreds (my share counts are mostly double digits), I think it makes sense to sell calls against them in this market, if you can get anything for them that is.

For the past year or longer the passive account has handily outpaced the active account. Don't know how long that trend might continue, but is as expected when mostly playing defense in the active account.

Totally the opposite here, my active account has outpaced my passive, especially this year.

For the year, I think my active account is up approx 13.4%, but my passive is up about 5%(due to bonds mostly). However these last two months have been very boring for me in my active account as there has been little to no activity.

I really like the idea of separating accounts, whenever I try to mix my active and passive accounts it does not go well.
