Now now let’s not get nasty ? lol

We all know buying at the top is never a good thing, and right now we’re at a top.  But with that said, you can still make money on the downswing. Use protection and put that cash to work and at least earn 5%. April will be a bad month. 2nd half of year we should be ok. Invest wisely and diversify.

In all seriousness, I have read so many articles about people who got out of the market before a big drop, congratulated themselves, but then stayed out, and by the time they got back in, prices were higher than before they got out.  So my takeaway is that the true skill is knowing when to get back in.  For instance, yeah I was a novice investor in December of 2021 and while I should have gone to cash or pharmaceuticals then, even if I had, I think it would have been even harder to know to get back in during October of 2022.  I probably would have waited until June or July of 2023.

I have definitely made horrible, bad moves.  My fellow forum members watched my growing pains.  While I had managed some small portfolios earlier; my real investing hobby started in November of 2019 when, after the divorce took my previous port, I started over with $65, and found this forum soon afterwards.  I will have 5 years of data this November, and I look forward to calculating my 5 year average annual performance then.  However, going back the last 4 years from the end of March 2020 to the end of March 2024, I've averaged 45% a year in my main taxable account, so mistakes and all, I'd say I'm doing okay so far.
