Hadn't heard of it until you and Otter were discussing it last week. I am trying to not add too many more new names. We'll see how long that lasts. I'm tempted ... but I don't have any funds right now anyway, and Ares Capital is next on my hit list. (Although I may have missed out, it's run up very high.) RE: What Did You Buy Today? - kblake - 04-28-2021 (04-28-2021, 09:20 AM)fenders53 Wrote:(04-28-2021, 09:16 AM)kblake Wrote: Bought some IBM. This is a name I like. For years has been dead and now has legs. Your dead wrong on that comment. I can see stock hitting $200 again. And the dividend is 3x the normal S&P stock. That's a good name to be in going forward. They will continue to grow their cloud business and I think and acquisition or 2 are in the cards. They just had there first quarter of growth in some time. IBM's total cloud revenue rose 21% year-over-year to $6.5 billion, or 37% of its top line, during the quarter. Its revenue from Red Hat also increased 17%. So give me IBM over most over valued tech stocks and will buy this all day long. The market at some point will get the valuation right and slam the names who are way over valued. In the meantime I will add to names like ABBV, CVX, PM, MO, CVS, LMT and IBM. You can have your TTCF of the world RE: What Did You Buy Today? - fenders53 - 04-28-2021 And while we are talking about ENPH, They sell power inverters. It's really not much more complicated than a cell phone or PC. It;s a commodity at some point. ENPH ran because solar has a tailwind and they are stealing market share from Sedge. There is no long term MOAT IMO without a lot of innovation. ENPH new challengers will be ramping up perhaps before 2021 ends. VBIN and I are stealing money from ENPH option buyers month after month because it is loved, but volatile for a reason. It's easy to not put yourself at risk of buying shares at current prices. IMO ENPH is actually worth about $100 if they meet EPS goals for the next two quarters. I play very little spec and try not to be careful not to suck anybody into my hype. ENPH is less stupidly valued than other popular stocks because they are profitable and no reason to believe that will change soon. But they are not profitable enough yet to justify anything near the current price. Specs are 5% of my game. I own lots of shares of your faves. I dare you to own IBM for five years. I'd settle for two years. You won't do it.(04-28-2021, 09:20 AM)fenders53 Wrote:(04-28-2021, 09:16 AM)kblake Wrote: Bought some IBM. This is a name I like. For years has been dead and now has legs. This is a name I like. For years has been dead and now has legs. I agree on IBM. The cloud and Red Hat are going to be a big driver for them going forward. They remind me of CSCO when everyone left that one for dead. I see the same happening here. And you cant beat that dividend. Fenders just rather be in T over IBM that's all I may buy some IBM as well today. It's on my list of undervalued companies. And I really like your thinking on the companies you listed. Those are all good buys here. I think the market is going to reward companies who have not had the big runs and deserve a higher multiple. CVS is very interesting and seems to want to go to $80. WBA too but like CVS way better. RE: What Did You Buy Today? - fenders53 - 04-28-2021 I got you both down for some $143 IBM. Book marking this post. Who else wants in today? Enjoy the sparring as always. What Did You Buy Today? - vbin - 04-28-2021 IBM has a lot of headwinds. But I will tell you this, a lot of businesses arround the world still use old ibm systems and it's heck of a task for them to come out of that legacy. People talk about subscription today, ibm nailed that down decades ago. Being said that all of those subscribers are looking to get out, it just ain't easy. Short term ibm still have it's core businesses intact. IBM knows this and they have been acting on it but given the old giant, they have lost their touch, too many players in the arena. One good thing they did is to partner with PLTR. I hope something good comes out of that. IBM cloud have too many compittors. They will stay in cloud but don't expect them to become a relevant name when people talk about cloud. It will be amzn, msft, googl, ORCL( of they get it right). In that's order mostly. RE: What Did You Buy Today? - fenders53 - 04-28-2021 IBM 5yr revenue growth is negative and so is the share price in a strong bull market. This week's sub 1% div raise is encouraging though. I am not buying $143 shares. If you bought the low weeks ago then a decent short term trade. Pretty sure I didn't read about that here. Pretty sure I didn't read about that here. not many value stocks left in the market, but the pull back in tech has opened up plenty of opportunities to invest. IBM stands out as a growth and value stock and therefore, positioned for better days. Doesn't matter what the 5 year growth was. It's what the future growth is. I don't care what they made 3-5 years ago and the stock price did. That means nothing And yes bought some IBM too today along with ADP RE: What Did You Buy Today? - fenders53 - 04-28-2021 It's hard to be huge legacy tech. CSCO and INTC struggled through it a very long time and if took several CEOs. IBM probably needs to spin off some businesses but I understand they try to bring a total solution to their customers. I guess we'll see who survives the next down cycle. RE: What Did You Buy Today? - ken-do-nim - 04-28-2021 (02-25-2021, 10:25 AM)fenders53 Wrote:(02-25-2021, 10:00 AM)divmenow Wrote: Bought some LDOS. Except, of course, for Seagate (STX), which is my barnstormer. RE: What Did You Buy Today? - fenders53 - 04-28-2021 I used to own Seagate and Western Digital back in the day. They reinvented themselves a few times since then. Do you remember Iomega? They took the world by storm with great products and folded up tent a few years later. Tech has never been easy. BTW my first 1GB HDD was a Seagate and it cost $300 in 1996 dollars. A friend of mine worked for the state and they paid $10k maybe 4-5yrs earlier. How big is a picture file you can email in two seconds these days. |
