Grabbed some LHX and caught the low this morning.  I have no idea why it''s pulled back this hard lately.  I'm pretty close to a full position now.  Added some T before the ex-div yesterday.

RTX is interesting but I still remember the conference call.  Pretty confident the earnings will be horrible due to BA. Will the market even care? Earnings estimates for most everything have been reduced so we can all rejoice negative revenue growth like we are supposed to.  Smile

Added on SO & DUK.

I would be cautious about adding companies that do business in the aerospace industry, particularly the commercial side. I am actually working in the aerospace industry and my company (a fortunate 500) just laid off a ton of people (don’t have the exact number but likely around 50-60%) in the aerospace division as the business prospects aren’t good. On the flip side, this may be the best opportunity to pick something up cheap.

I think it might be a good place to start nibbling RTX.  Too late for that move for me lol.  I have about a 50% position.  I see no reason to sell, nor did I $10 ago.  Gotta hold something core or I'm just gambling.  That said, the RTX CEO was unambiguous.  Military will be fine, commercial has a tough hill to climb.  He flat out said their subsidiary Collins was shipping nothing.  Nothing isn't a good monthly sales projection.  Smile

Added just a few shares of LMT today.  Sold an FCX put strictly on momentum today, and some growth prospects soon.  I traded FCX much lower not long back.

They are cutting Div fourth quarter.  I like your chances of getting it at $70 or less if you are still interested after you research recent news.

I agree with Fenders on D.  Once they cut the dividend that was it for me. The yield is isn’t even 4% yet. Let it come down some, then buy.  To me the defense contractors are the place to be buying some shares. LMT. NOC, LHX and RTX. Buy them when there hated.

In my imaginary world of perfect timing, I hope to end up a little overweight in the pure defense contractors soon on a market dip, then rotate some profits to RTX a quarter or two from now because I think it will be much slower to recover.   They all seem to move with the big industrials to some degree (whether they should or not).  I'm still hoping we can get a real rough market week this summer.  The FED moves and election craziness may be epic in SEP-OCT so I don't want to be trying to time that.

Added a little more LMT and LHX at the close. Full position in LHX now and real close in LMT.

RE: What Did You Buy Today? - EricL - 07-09-2020

The dividend cut from D sucks, and I'll likely trim my position a bit, but I think it still represents a decent value relative to other utilities even after the cut.

Assuming a $2.50 annual dividend after the cut and $3.85 in 2021 earnings and you'll be looking at a utility with a 65% payout ratio, a 3.4% yield at today's price, and a projected 6.5% growth rate.

This compares favorably with XEL and WEC who have 2.7% and 2.9% yields with similar growth and NEE that has a 2.2% yield and a bit higher growth.

It's not a stupid question.  This is a public forum so we don't generally share excessive personal info like our port balance if it's largish.  But mostly I don't wish to come off like I'm arrogant by saying things like, "Bought 200 shares of this or that today", when I know some are buying one share at a time. I always have time to help somebody decide if they should buy two shares of KO or one share of PEP.  We all started somewhere.

To your question, if I state I now have a full position, that means I'm all in... all I care to own with current facts.  That might be only $3K of a stock like WEN I consider a little speculative.  It probably means $20K-ish for my core stocks like LMT, BMY or one of my favorite UTEs.  Then there is over-weight.  I don't take those decisions lightly as it could affect my net worth if I get a few too many picks wrong.  It's takes a special amount of conviction and if I add, I add slowly from a "full position".

And BTW I have no time limit to establish a "full position". I might start a position in two similar stocks like BMY and MRK. Maybe I see opportunity in a price drop and it makes it there in weeks or maybe years. Maybe the other launches to an extreme valuation immediately. I might just cash out and regroup if it's not truly a core DGI holding I am committed to, or not.

It's my opinion you should have that full position "number" throughout your investment career.  It will change with time as your port grows.  Doesn't matter if it's $100, $10,000 or $50,000 now.  It encourages some diversity and less propensity to gamble because you think you got this figured out.  We never completely figure this out. To me proper capital allocation requires some sort of a plan that doesn't change daily.
