Bought some BIP, EMR, JPM, NNN, and O this morning.

And UPS and VFC, because why the heck not.

I feel the same way. Those become your best investments sometimes lol

Trimmed some JNJ, because why the heck not? Smile Well that, and because I know I can buy it back cheaper.

This is what makes the forum very good IMO.  Disagreement seems to be welcomed here as long as you present a thoughtful opinion.  I adjust my positions when I am presented with logical arguments from any of the members.  I'd rather make money than "win the internet" lol.

Agreed - this is a safe place to disagree and hear other perspectives.  I basically never sell, so I tend to agree with you in general.  There's just something within me that doesn't allow me to buy something at an all time high.  I just don't get it.  And I love pharma & healthcare.

We may "argue" a lot, but as far as I know, nobody here is taking any joy in anyone's else's failure.  You really have to read posts in context, and it's MUCH easier here because you know everyone else's game well enough if you are paying attention.  Just for an example, Divemenow might buy ABT at 95, ride it up to 102 and dump it in two weeks.  That doesn't make you wrong to wait around for 80 or so for a very long-term hold.  I've done that repeatedly with ABT around my core position.  It's not like you can't find some better value for today's purchase.  We all play this game a little different.  I hope everyone wins.  I have no doubt we are learning even when a purchase doesn't work out.

I almost never buy an ATH because my intent is almost always a longer term hold whether it works out that way or not.  I'll say again our entry price DOES matter even for a long-term hold.  I'd rather have 10 or 100 shares, than 9 or 90 for the same price.  And you can usually make that happen with some patience.

All that said, a stock at an ATH on great news may not necessarily be overvalued relative to the market. It's my opinion that ABT at $95+ and a sky high PE while pulling guidance in this economy is just not one of those times. Dissenting views is what makes a market.

RE: What Did You Buy Today? - EricL - 04-22-2020

I have zero problems buying a stock at new all-time highs, as often-times that means a breakout where price can go much higher.

I do shy away from buying at all-time highs when a stock is trading at all-time high valuations, and is trading there despite EPS estimates for 2020 being cut.

According to FAST Graphs, ABT is trading at a blended PE of ~30. This is the first time its traded at that multiple since January of 2002.

ABT is priced for perfection, and is getting a huge premium due to the publicity of its COVID-19 diagnostic tests.

Just keep in mind, this is a $165B company, and there are also other parts to the business that are struggling due to the pandemic.

I haven't trimmed my position yet, but I'm strongly considering taking some off the table to fill out my BMY position.

This is very much like MMM spiking because they are selling a bazillion face masks for a buck each.  That's great but it's such a small part of their 10,000 SKU line up.

New position in AJG. I have always wanted to own this name.

Bought O as well because of its tenants. Home Depot, Sams Club, Walmart, Dollar Stores. You cant go wrong with this company at these levels. I would add more under $45

I may buy T today but am hoping for $27-28

RE: What Did You Buy Today? - stockguru - 04-22-2020

What's the hurry on DIS??

60% of Disney operating $$$ comes from parks and they are closed possibly to end of the year ..Stock is down only 33% YTD. Sure their subscriber growth for Disney plus it up this month only because people are sitting home with nothing to do. Same with NFLX. But that wont last.

People are going to be reluctant to fly and travel for a while. I like DIS but wont buy until its under $90

T is on my watch list.

Good to have you back kblake.

I flipped O for a very quick 20% on the panic sell last month and hoping for a longer-term position closer to $40 once again.  I might nibble under $45 with a little more visibility.  We'll have our answer soon on how many are not paying the rent, then I can make a more informed decision.  O is a good long-term hold either way.  REITs go way overvalued.  It's nice they are finally at near fair value.

I sold a few covered puts today trying to get forced back into T and ADM.  I had some covered calls exercised 10% higher when they ran.  Just trying to get my positions back up to size on my terms if possible.

Sold a little more JNJ again today on the run.
